Thyroid & Adrenal health

Underactive Thyroid & Adrenals can result in debilitating fatigue and a sluggish metabolism with weight gain. When you have a sluggish metabolism, you are not able to break down food and convert to energy. You gain weight and are not able to use nutrients for cellular processes that can result in fatigue. The thyroid controls metabolism and is your thermostat. You typically feel cold with an underactive thyroid. When you do not have energy, you experience fatigue. Your Adrenals are your first line of defense to stress that makes adrenaline to respond to and cope with stress. Chronic Stress or Trauma can seriously impact your Adrenal Function resulting in debilitating fatigue.

At VIP, our doctors can restore energy and metabolism by addressing thyroid and adrenal function. Our doctors perform extensive testing on your thyroid and adrenals that can identify the cause of your problems.

Typically your Primary Care Physician does not run all of these tests. Your thyroid controls your metabolism, your body temperature and if sluggish, weight gain including obesity results. Adrenal function must be addressed in addition to an underactive thyroid. Low Thyroid function and Low Adrenal function Symptoms are listed below.

Thyroid, Adrenal, and Hormones

Many people suffer with fatigue which is a loss of energy. This can be related to your adrenal, thyroid, and/or female/male hormones that are not functioning adequately typically not producing enough hormones. The adrenal gland is your first line of defense to stress-producing adrenaline, cortisol, and DHEA. With severe stress known as trauma or chronic long term stress, it is likely your adrenals are depleted.

Below is a list of common symptoms. We test your adrenal status and can provide a treatment plan to optimize adrenal function and restore vitality and health.

Thyroid-Adrenal-and-Hormones

There is a field, hormone receptor chemistry. There was no surprise to find an adrenal receptor on an adrenal gland. There was a surprise to find an adrenal receptor on the thyroid gland or a thyroid receptor on the ovary or an adrenal receptor on the pituitary in the brain.

The point is the endocrine system is tightly regulated and if one system is out of whack, the others are impacted. Also if you improve one system such as adrenal function, then you do not need as much medication or supplementation to improve thyroid function. Often Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) is overlooked as conventional medicine does not run a complete thyroid panel. They usually run a TSH or a TSH and T4. You actually need to run TSH, T3, T4, reverse T3 and thyroid antibody panel. This will truly show how the thyroid is functioning. If you just run TSH, you may be in the normal range but that does not mean your thyroid is functioning properly. Symptoms of Hypothyroid include Fatigue, Feeling Cold, Thinning Hair, and Weight Gain. After evaluating test results, we provide an individualized treatment plan that could be over-the-counter nutraceuticals or a prescription. Hypothyroidism is very common and treatable. Autoimmune Thyroiditis is not as common but is also treatable. We also treat hyperthyroid conditions. We also treat overactive adrenal as well as underactive adrenal function.

Often the body crashes with depleted hormone cascade in menopause. As your body is no longer generating hormones from the ovary, then the body pulls hormones from the adrenal gland. The adrenal gland produces significantly less hormones than your ovary and the end result is debilitating fatigue as your body can not keep up with the demand. Bioidentical Hormone Replacement therapy known as BHRT works beautifully to restore adequate hormone levels where you can be restored, rejuvenated, and full of vitality again. See Women’s Health and Menopause or Men’s health to read more about BHRT.
